From Gautegiz Arteaga to the world
At the end of the 19th century, a young man from Gautegiz Arteaga (Bizkaia) set off for Barcelona to discover the secrets of a fascinating musical machine: the pipe organ. Over time, Lope Alberdi became one of the most prestigious organ builders of his era.His work is located in numerous locations in the Iberian Peninsula, America, and the Philippines.
The title of the exhibition, Whistles from Urdaibai, brings to mind the sound that comes from organ pipes and, at the same time, it is a tribute to Alberdi’s roots. A remarkable collection of his instruments still remains in the region where he was born, forming a living museum where, more than a century later, his legacy continues to resonate.
De Gautegiz Arteaga au monde
À la fin du XIXe siècle, un jeune homme de Gautegiz Arteaga (Bizkaia) partit pour Barcelone afin de percer les secrets d’une fascinante machine musicale : l’orgue à tuyaux. Au fil du temps, Lope Alberdi devint l’un des facteurs d’orgues les plus prestigieux de son époque.Son œuvre se retrouve dans de nombreuses localités de la péninsule ibérique, ainsi qu’en Amérique et aux Philippines.
Le titre de l’exposition, Sifflements d’Urdaibai, évoque le son qui émane des tuyaux de l’orgue et constitue en même temps un hommage aux racines d’Alberdi. Dans la région qui l’a vu naître, un ensemble remarquable de ses instruments subsiste, formant un musée vivant où, plus d’un siècle plus tard, son héritage continue de résonner.
